Cleaning is one of the many activities we associate with springtime. Spring is a great time to take time to tidy up your space, giving yourself a clean start to the new year. Cleaning is an often forgotten part of the moving process. Typically, it’s customary to clean up after yourself when you are relocating. That way, the space will be fresh and welcoming for its new tenants.
A move-out clean-up is standard when you rent a space or want to make a good impression on buyers. Landlords often ask for a deposit upfront when you move in, and your space must be in tiptop shape when you move out to get that deposit back. Cleaning up a commercial building can be a big job. There are many ways to make this job easier, or you could reach out to your corporate movers and ask about their cleaning and disinfecting services for commercial spaces.
Declutter Your Office to Save Space
Over the years, your office space has likely accumulated many things that aren’t necessary for day-to-day operations. Getting ready to move is a great time to declutter your space. Decluttering beforehand tidies things up and ensures that clutter doesn’t follow you to your new location. As you pack up your belongings, get rid of everything you don’t want to take with you.
You can get rid of these possessions by throwing them away if they’re worthless, but if they have some value, you may be able to donate or sell them. For items that you don’t need but cannot get rid of, consider renting a storage unit where you can keep them out of the way until you need them again.
Wipe Down All of Your Kitchen Appliances
The office kitchen has likely been used more frequently than you think and cleaned less frequently than it should. Mainly, kitchen appliances like the oven, microwave, toaster, and refrigerator are often overlooked during light cleaning sessions, making them the areas that need it the most. While you’re still in your office, take some time to wipe down the inside and outside of these appliances to give them a thorough cleaning.
Since the refrigerator may house someone’s lunch or their long-forgotten leftovers, give your employees a deadline for when they need to take anything out that they want to keep before throwing the rest away. Once the fridge is empty, wipe down the inside. To clean the freezer, you must defrost it first before wiping it down.
Dust All of the Office Furniture, Equipment, and Appliances
The last thing you want to do is bring all the dust and dirt that’s been collected on your belongings from your old place to your new place. Dust often collects in places that aren’t frequently disturbed, such as desks, light fixtures, decorations, window shades, and vents. The tops of bookshelves and refrigerators are often dusty, and so are the backs of any equipment and appliances you have against a wall. Carpets collect dust as well, so if you have any carpet in your office, it may be time to schedule a professional steam cleaning.
Dusting is also a good time to replace the filters in the HVAC system as they are likely overdue for replacement and coated in dust and debris.
